الأذكياء للإمام ابن الجوزي

Just skimming through الأذكياء "The Intellectuals" by Imam al Hafiz Abu al Faraj ibn al Jawzi. In the editor’s preface of the book mentioned a number of quotes from him. I found one that was pretty cool:

“There was a reader that was reading in front of him (al Jawzi) who had a beautiful voice. His reading delighted the crowd. Then a reader with an unpleasant voice read, upsetting the crowd. He remarked, “There were some people who had two slave girls. One would sing for them with a beautiful voice and the other with a horrid voice. When the first would sing they would tear up their clothing. When the second would sing they would sit and stitch what they tore up.”
